Europe in School

The purpose of this website is to provide information and classroom tasks to support the teaching of citizenship at KS3 and KS4. Its primary focus is the European Union – how it works and how we can participate in its democratic structures. There is also a substantial section on migration.

Our intention is that the site should be a vital classroom resource. Information will be kept current and teachers are encouraged to share successful classroom practice.

This site is sponsored by the European Movement, a cross party voluntary organisation whose purpose is to promote public understanding of Europe and the impact of the European Union on everyday life.

The European Movement in Sussex Russian Society was joined by Lewes Links, an organisation which was set up in 1992 to forge links and to promote better understanding of central and eastern Europe. As countries in those areas opened to contacts with western Europen movment, Lewes Links aimed to involve Sussex Russian Society in creating and sustaining links with people and organisations in the eastern half of Europe.

In May some of the countries where these contacts had been built were welcomed into the European Union, and another two in January. Other countries still aspire to join, and the concept of a European movment goes well beyond the borders of the EU.
